For the investigation of the effect of grid resolution on ozone predictions, a RAMS3b/UAM-V simulation with a 4-km inner grid was carried out and compared to the 12-km and 36-km RAMS3b/UAM-V simulations (Figure 1). The simulation period for all of these modeling simulations covers the July 12-15, 1995 ozone episode. In addition, the RAMS3b/UAM-V simulations with horizontal grid dimensions of 36 km and 12 km were performed for the time period June 4 - August 31, 1995, and the SMRAQ simulation covered the time period May 15 - September 12.

For the comparison between the RAMS3b/ UAM-V modeling system and the MM5/SAQM modeling system, both models were run with a 12-km inner grid covering most of the eastern United States (Figure 1). Details on the setup of the meteorological models can be found in Kallos et al. (1997) and Zhang and Rao (1999), and the setup of the photochemical modeling is described in Sistla et al. (1999). For the comparison between the RAMS3b/UAM-V modeling system and the SMRAQ modeling system, both modeling systems were run with the horizontal grid cell size of 36 km (Figure 1).
